Travel for treatment in Thailand can fall under different entry arrangements depending on nationality, treatment duration and the responsible mission's rules. The phrase medical visa does not describe one universal permission covering every patient, hospital visit or recovery period.
A Thai hospital's treatment plan helps establish the purpose and expected duration of the visit, but the hospital does not grant immigration permission. If treatment continues beyond the current stay, immigration may require a treating physician's explanation of why an extension is medically necessary.
What we handle
- Select an entry route for the planned treatment.
- Coordinate appointment and hospital support evidence.
- Assess accompanying relatives or carers.
- Prepare medically supported extension requests.

Why are applications refused, and how do we prepare?
| Common refusal reason | How we prepare |
|---|---|
| Hospital evidence does not explain the requested treatment period | We obtain a treatment plan and, for an extension where relevant, a specific medical explanation. |
| An accompanying relative has no independent stay basis | We assess each companion's category and supporting relationship or hospital evidence. |
Counsel's note
A medical appointment does not suspend an expiring stay. Raise extension needs early; any application based on inability to travel should be supported by the treating hospital's specific medical assessment.
