A child studying in Thailand does not automatically give every accompanying family member permission to remain. A qualifying parent or guardian may be able to seek a Non-O visa and education-linked extension, subject to the student's status, the institution and the applicable relationship and support criteria.
The position of a parent accompanying a school-age child differs from that of a spouse or child accompanying an adult student. We assess each family member separately, including custody, the number of eligible guardians and the effect of a school transfer or the student's departure.
What we handle
- Assess each accompanying relative's eligibility.
- Review birth, marriage and custody documentation.
- Coordinate student and institution support records.
- Plan financial evidence and linked extensions.
How the process works

Family review

Step 2
Institution check
Obtain enrolment and status evidence suitable for the intended filing.
Step 3
Application
Prepare relationship, support and immigration documentation.
Step 4
Continuity
Review school changes, student renewals and dependant expiry dates together.

Why are applications refused, and how do we prepare?
| Common refusal reason | How we prepare |
|---|---|
| The proposed guardian or dependant falls outside the applicable criteria | We assess each relationship and do not assume both parents qualify through one student. |
| Student status, custody records or financial evidence is incomplete | We coordinate institution letters, family records and current support requirements. |
Counsel's note
Financial thresholds, account seasoning and the number of eligible guardians must be confirmed against current official notices and the competent office's requirements. Do not assume that two parents qualify through one student.
