How the fine works
A fine accrues for each day of overstay up to a statutory maximum. You pay it when you surrender at an immigration office or at the airport on departure. The fine settles the overstay itself; it does not erase the record or any separate ban.
When entry bans apply
Thai rules impose re-entry bans that scale with the length of the overstay, and the thresholds differ sharply between voluntary surrender and arrest. Even short overstays that end in arrest can bring a multi-year ban, while a short overstay settled voluntarily at the airport usually ends with the fine alone. The exact thresholds are set by ministerial regulation and change from time to time, so confirm the current table before making decisions.

Surrender versus arrest
Surrendering at the airport departure counter or an immigration office is treated as cooperation: you pay the fine, receive the overstay stamp and depart. Being found overstaying during a police stop, a raid or another investigation is treated as an offence: detention, court, a fine and a ban at much lower thresholds. The same number of overstay days can produce very different outcomes depending on how it comes to light.
If you cannot leave immediately
Where an overstay overlaps with illness, a cancelled flight or a pending court matter, document everything and approach immigration before the situation worsens. In narrow cases an application for a short extension or a facilitated departure is possible, but discretion is limited and shrinks as the overstay grows.
How we help
We assess your overstay length and circumstances against the current regulation, prepare the surrender so it goes as smoothly as possible, and advise on the realistic risk of a ban and on any future visa strategy. No adviser can remove a ban once imposed.
