Who qualifies
The marriage must be registered at a Thai district office or a foreign marriage recorded there, and the couple must live together in fact. Since the Marriage Equality Act took effect on 23 January 2025, same-sex spouses qualify on the same basis. The applicant needs a Non-Immigrant visa, usually a Non-O obtained abroad or by change of status in Thailand.
The financial test
- Deposit: at least 400,000 baht in a bank in Thailand, held throughout the two months before filing.
- Income: average income of at least 40,000 baht a month.
- Combined: income and savings together reaching 400,000 baht for the year.
- A foreign wife of a Thai husband has no stated money test in the order, though offices may ask for other evidence of support.

Documents offices commonly request
- Marriage certificate (Kor Ror 2 or Kor Ror 3) and, for foreign marriages, the Kor Ror 22 record.
- Thai spouse's ID card and house registration.
- Photos of the couple at home and a location map.
- Bank letter and updated bank book dated close to filing.
- TM.30 receipt for the address and signed passport copies.
Interview and home visit
Both spouses usually attend to give statements. Many offices issue an 'under consideration' stamp first and may visit the home before granting the full year. Prepare the home and keep the same address throughout.
Foreign documents and the apostille change
A marriage certificate issued abroad must be legalised and translated before it is recorded in Thailand. Thailand acceded to the Apostille Convention on 30 June 2026 and it applies from 28 February 2027; until then consular legalisation is still required.
How we help
We check the marriage records and money evidence against the order, prepare the statements and photo set the responsible office expects, and stay with you through the under-consideration period. We cannot promise approval.
